Andrew Artz

Andrew S. Artz is Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Section of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Chicago. Dr. Artz received his medical degree from West Virginia University, completed residency and internship at Georgetown University and a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago.

Dr. Artz's main interest is geriatric hematology. He conducts research and has established a Geriatric Anemia Clinic at the University of Chicago to evaluate and treat anemia in elderly. He regularly lectures on anemia in older adults and is widely published in the area. Dr. Artz is the co-Principal Investigator on an NIH sponsored consortium to develop clinical trials for anemia in the elderly.

Dr. Artz also engages in research evaluating the risks and benefits of allogeneic hematopoietic transplantation for older adults. In addition, he has written textbook chapters on anemia in the elderly, and stem cell transplant in the elderly. He is a member of the Ad Hoc American Society of Hematology Committee on Aging and the American Society of Clinical Oncology Health Outcomes Committee. Dr Artz also belongs to numerous associations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, American College of Physicians-American Society of Internal Medicine, and American Medical Association. He is the secretary/treasurer for the National Anemia Action Council.
