Specialty: Obstetrics, Gynecology
Arnold J. Friedman is Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York. He received his medical degree from New York University and completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Yale-New Haven Hospital in 1978. He was formerly chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey, where he was first exposed to modern blood management principles and “bloodless” medicine and surgery. Consequently he became an advocate for the appropriate use of blood and blood products, lecturing and writing in the obstetrics and gynecology field.
He as also served as a member of the “Great Women” project, a multidisciplinary physician group reviewing the issue of anemia in women throughout the life cycle. He remains an ardent advocate for education in the field of transfusion medicine for all healthcare professionals. Dr. Friedman’s clinical interests include uro-gynecology, urinary incontinence, fibroids, pelvic floor defects and pelvic surgery.
