New Update for Anemia Guideline of Chronic Kidney Disease
Updated: September 12, 2007
Recent information and research about anemia management of chronic kidney disease (CKD) has prompted the National Kidney Foundation to revise their Clinical Practice Guidelines on Anemia and CKD. The Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative work group has submitted a draft update for further review by over 1000 stakeholders. A final updated guideline should be published early next year.
The most profound changes include:
- Recommended factors to consider when selecting a target Hemoglobin (Hb) level
- Identification of a target Hb range between 11.0 – 12.0 g/dL
- Evidence-based conclusion to keep target Hb levels below 13.0 g/dL
The clinical practice guideline updates can be viewed on the NKF website
