U.S. Senate Calls for Reevaluation of CMS Anemia Drug Reimbursement Policy
Updated: September 12, 2007
A non-binding resolution from the U.S. Senate called for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to immediately reevaluate its anemia drug reimbursement policy. The September 4th resolution came a month after CMS released updated rules for coverage of anemia drugs used to treat cancer patients. The resolution stated CMS should:
- Begin an immediate reconsideration of their new reimbursement restrictions on anemia drugs
- Consult with members of the clinical oncology community to determine appropriate revisions to the policy
- Implement appropriate revisions quickly and brief Congress before any formal announcements are made
